How to Master Hexagon and Triangle Board Shapes

Published on April 12, 2026

Welcome to our first strategy breakdown for Letter Boxed Play! Standard square puzzles limit you to traditional connection rules, but what happens when you switch to our premium Hexagon feature? The board geometry expands completely.

Because the angle of nodes shifts considerably, solving requires a modified methodology.

Here are our top tips for dominating 6-sided boards:

  • Survey the Vowels: Because a Hexagon allows more letters per side, vowels naturally cluster. Target syllables early on to map out combinations effortlessly.
  • The 'ER' and 'ING' Trap: Don't just fall back on simple suffixes! Due to the increased letter pool, compound words and complex adjectives yield significantly higher scores. Look for prefixes like 'UN' and 'RE' sitting adjacent to root verbs.
  • Utilize the Hint Tool: Stuck connecting sides? Don't forget that our unblocked platform features a free Hint Power-Up (the lightbulb icon) that flashes the path to an unvisited node for you.

Keep these tips in mind, and you'll be stringing together 12-letter combos in no time!
